ThinkPack Reader Privacy Policy

This policy explains what the ThinkPack Reader Android app does with your information. It is written in plain language on purpose. The short version: your books stay on your device, the AI only sees the text you choose to send it, and we collect as little as we can to keep the app running.

ThinkPack Reader is published by ThinkPack (“we,” “us”). This policy covers the mobile app specifically. For the website, see our website privacy policy.

Your books and reading content

You add books to ThinkPack Reader through Android’s document picker (the Storage Access Framework). The app reads the TXT, EPUB, and PDF files you choose so it can display them and remember your place.

  • Stored on your device. Your library, reading progress, bookmarks, saved vocabulary, and per-book conversation history live locally on your phone. We do not upload your books or maintain a copy of your library on our servers.
  • No account required. You can read, import books, browse Project Gutenberg, and use the local library without creating an account or giving us your name or email.
  • The exception is AI. When you ask the AI about a passage (see below), the specific text you select and a small amount of surrounding context leaves your device. Nothing else from your library does.

AI lookups and image generation

When you long-press a passage and ask the AI to explain, define, summarize, continue a conversation, or generate an image, the app sends a request to ThinkPack’s own backend, which forwards it to the AI provider you have selected.

What is sent

  • The passage you selected.
  • A limited amount of surrounding context (nearby pages and an evolving summary of the book) so the answer fits what you are reading.
  • Your question or instruction, and the chat history for that book’s conversation.
  • For image generation, the passage and any prompt you provide.

How it is routed

AI requests pass through our backend rather than calling providers directly from the app, so no third-party API keys are stored in the app. Depending on the model you choose, your request may be processed by Anthropic (Claude 4.6), OpenAI (GPT 5.5), Google (Gemini 3), or xAI (Grok 4.3). Generated answers and images are returned to your device and saved locally (images go to that book’s Gallery).

What we keep

We use AI requests only to generate your response and to keep the service running (for example, to debug errors and prevent abuse). We do not sell this content or use it to build advertising profiles. AI providers process the content under their own terms; you can review them at Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, and xAI.

Crash reports and diagnostics

The app uses Google Firebase Crashlytics to automatically detect and report crashes so we can fix them. When the app crashes or hits an error, Crashlytics may automatically collect:

  • A crash stack trace and the state of the app at the time.
  • Device model and operating system version.
  • App version and the sequence of events leading up to the crash.
  • A Crashlytics-generated installation identifier (a random ID tied to the app install, not to your name or email).

This data is used only to diagnose stability and reliability problems. It is handled by Google as a processor on our behalf. See Firebase’s privacy and security information.

In-app feedback and reports

The app has a feedback option you can use to report a problem or send us a suggestion. It is entirely optional. When you submit feedback, the report is sent to ThinkPack’s backend so we can read it and respond.

  • What is sent: the message you write, and basic technical details (such as app version and device/OS) that help us understand the report.
  • Your email is optional. You can attach an email address if you would like a reply. If you leave it blank, we have no way to identify or contact you, and we do not try to.

We use feedback only to improve the app and to respond to you. We do not use it for advertising, and we do not sell it. If you included an email, we keep it only as long as needed to handle your report and any follow-up.

Purchases (PRO)

ThinkPack Reader offers an optional PRO upgrade for heavier AI features. Purchases are processed by Google Play Billing. We do not receive or store your full payment details (Google handles the transaction). We receive confirmation of purchase and entitlement status from Google Play so the app can unlock the features you paid for.

Your purchase history and payment methods are governed by the Google Play / Google Payments privacy policy.

What we do not collect

  • We do not require an account, name, email, or phone number to use the app. An email is only ever provided by you, optionally, when you send feedback.
  • We do not collect your contacts, photos, location, or microphone.
  • We do not upload your book library or read files you have not opened in the app.
  • We do not sell your data or use it for third-party advertising.

Data retention and deletion

Content stored on your device (library, progress, bookmarks, conversations, vocabulary, image gallery) stays until you delete it. You can remove it by deleting books in the app, clearing the app’s storage in Android Settings, or uninstalling the app.

Crash diagnostics are retained by Crashlytics for a limited period in line with Google’s defaults. AI request data and any feedback you send (including an email, if you provided one) are retained only as long as needed to operate the service and respond to you. To request deletion of any data associated with you, email jacqueline@thinkpack.ai.

Children

ThinkPack Reader is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will remove it.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal data, and to object to certain processing. Because most of your data stays on your device, you can exercise many of these directly in the app. For anything else, email jacqueline@thinkpack.ai and we will help.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app changes. We will update the effective date at the top and, for significant changes, note it in the app or on this page.
